EZRA Project Graphic

EZRAproject_sign
Highpoint Church asked me to create a logo/graphic for their new “urban renewal” ministry, The Ezra Project. The idea of the ministry is to help revitalize “run-down” communities through construction and beautification projects. I was given the direction of “edgy, cool, with a little grunge feel to it... not looking for it to be punk, but definitely a ‘dirty’ feeling.” Of course, all of those modifiers ring my bells so my mind was racing with ideas. In the end, I wanted to capture the vision of changing “entire streets” that the pastor communicated in his description of the ministry. The image that kept coming to mind was a street sign. So I created a grungy, distressed street sign with the name EZRA on it, and then added a spray paint stencil of “project” over it. I really like the way it captures the “street” feel, but I wasn’t satisfied with how it captured the overall “renewal” concept. So I took some vector images of old, run-down buildings, added some paint splatters and chaos, then juxtaposed those with images of growth (flowers, grass, roots, leaves, etc) and placed the logo in the middle of it all. The result: a perfect post-modern reflection of beauty and dirt, dilapidation and renewal, degradation and growth.

Sermon Series Invite Card

Religidiculous-InviteCard-proof2

South Palm CC wanted me to design Invite cards for their upcoming sermon series Religidiculous. They had the initial graphic which basically appeared to be a name-drop over a stock image, but it was a square image which does not work for a business card size. So, I removed the main graphic (circle with cross and text) and created a background to match, added some glow and gradient strokes, and then added the tag line. Creating the background was a fun process that included doing a vector trace of a photograph that I took of an old headstone and then using gradients creatively. They loved it!

Fuel House Logo Screen

FebLogoScreen

Here is the newest version of logo screen that I have created for Fuel House ministries. He wanted a specific color palette to match his newest lighting scheme. I had him send me a picture of his light scenes and, using a very cool program, created a custom color palette in Illustrator, and came up with this busy, but very eye-catching screen. I am in the process of developing a motion background out of this using After Effects.

Marriage Retreat Graphics

TwoInOne-proofMarriage&Gospel55x85_postcard-proof
First Baptist Church of Melbourne, FL wanted me to do a logo for their Marriage Retreat that would be usable every year, and create a graphic for the current year's theme.  They gave me the idea of 2 in 1 which is a reference to the Genesis 2:24 passage and turned me loose.  Here's what I came up with.  A nice logo that is tasteful, yet edgy enough to appeal to younger audiences (20-35 yrs).  It was also necessary for the logo to work in black and white, which this does very nicely. The theme for the conference was The Gospel and Marriage.  The direction I was given was a silhouetted couple with a cross.  I found a great picture of a couple kissing in front of a sunset, did a vector trace, added a lot of light bursts, a cool cross with vines, some floral graphics, and here you have it.

Starting Point and Next Step Graphics

Starting PointNextStepGroups
South Palm asked me to design logos for their new member programs.  They wanted to go with a "journey" theme, and since they are coastal, they decided to blend nautical with land-based elements.  Here's what I came up with.  I took a basic nautical map and placed it over an image of worn paper.  I then gave it a light color overlay and pulled the opacity of the image down to allow the two images to appear as one.  I then took an eraser with a 35% opacity and erased the edges of the map image until it plended perfectly with the parchement underneath.  Add a nautical compass, text, some splatter along with a rose compass, and there you have it.  I used the same image with Groups, but I removed the compass and added a magnifying glass (per their request).  I created a cut-out layer underneath the glass and added a slight bulge effect.  The glass was also a seperate layer with a 25% opacity.  For the Next Step, I changed the map to a topo map and drew in a journey route along with a few other arrows.  Add some footprints, and voila!

Ghostly Graphic

GhostsOfChristmasPast3
High Point Church asked me to make a graphic for their Christmas series "Ghosts of Christmas Past."  They wanted a dark background and the words to have a smokey, ghost-like feel.  Here's what I came up with for them. The client wanted the font to match, or be similar to the title for A Christmas Carol.  Chose a font that was close, duplicated it, added motion blur to the back layer, smudged out some smokey wisps on the letters, and voilà!  Added a radial gradient to the light rays to keep it from washing out the image... came out nice I think.

Winter Fuel House Logo

WinterLogoScreen
Fuel House Student Ministries wanted a logo screen for winter.  The direction I was given was "blue".  Winter is an interesting concept here in Central Florida, so I chose to juxtapose palm trees I used in the summer logo screen with snow by adding snow caps to the trees and placing them over an abstract snow storm.  I also added a gradient stroke to the text to give it an icy feel.

Fuel House Newsletter

Newsletter1
I was recently asked to re-vamp the newsletter for Fuel House Ministries.  They send out a monthly newsletter and wanted to give it a more "cool" and "edgier" feel to go along with the recent work I have done for them.  I've done plenty of newsletters in my time as a youth minister, so I wanted to break the mold a bit and give it a more graphical emphasis rather than emphasize the content.  I decided to take an urban route and create a message wall like you see in many cities.  I wanted to capture the random ads and notices you might find on a message wall while also retaining readability for the columns.  The main elements are easily re-arranged to create multiple "looks" so each month won't look the same.  The newsletters are tri-fold and this is the inside.  I'll post the outside when it is complete.  I'll also post any revisions requested by the client.

Back to School and Autumn Logo Screens

FallLogoScreen
This is a logo screen that I made for Fuel House student ministries.  They gave me their logo (in the middle) and wanted me to create an image that would be displayed on their video screens as the teenagers walked into the room.  The wanted to capture the feel of their worship as well as the general theme for the fall of movement and impact.  The image was such a hit that I will be re-working it to make the colors match a more Autumnal palette
FallLogoScreenV.2
Fuel House wanted to give the image a more "autumn" feel, so I changed the background colors to reds, oranges, browns, and yellows.

The Office Direct Mail postcards

TheOfficeFront-6x9TheOfficeBack6x9
These are 6x9 postcards that I made for South Palm Community Church.  They sent me an original front for the card, but it was a very low resolution image.  I took their original idea and re-created the front and added their information on the back.  I chose to add the post-it graphic on the back to enhance the "office" feel of the postcard.  These guys send out cards on almost a weekly basis, so I try to do what I can to make them as visually compelling as possible in an effort to keep them out of the trash!
